Mail Merge
A mail merge is a technique of using data from a spreadsheet, database or other structured data format, and inserting it into documents such as emails, letters, and mailing envelopes. Mail merge lets you send personalized emails for each contact in the list.

Advantages of Mail Merge
Mail merge has several advantages. Some of the advantages are listed below.
a. The mail merge feature makes it easy to send the same letter to a large number of people. Many people can be selected at once, so we can send them the letter easily.
b. By using mail merge, we don't have to type each recipient's name separately in each letter.
c. We need to proofread only the main document.
d. It is economical and saves a lot of time. It doesn't cost very much as at a time many letters can be sent.
e. It is easy to edit the letter as a single change made in the main letter will be reflected in the letters meant for all other recipients.

To create Mail Merge
Follow these Steps to create mail-merge in MS-Word
a. Open a blank document

b. Go to mailing Tab and Click on start mail merge & click on step-by-step mail wizard

c. Selecting Recipients for Mail Merge Letters/Envelope/Email message/Labels etc. and click on next: starting document

d. Select existing/current document & click on next

e. Select type a New/Existing list

f. Write your letter and save it

g. Previewing Your Mail Merge Letters

h. Finalizing Your Mail Merge Documents

Advantages of Word Processor over typewriter
The advantages of a word processor over typewriter are as follows.
Fast: Typing text in a word processor becomes speedy as there is no mechanical carriage movement associated.
Editing features: Any type of correction can be made easily as and when required.
Permanent storage: With word processors, documents can be saved and retrieved whenever desired.
Graphics: Most modern word processors provide the facility of incorporating drawings in the documents.
OLE(Object Linking and Embedding): Most modern word processors provide facilities to link or embed objects in a document.
Spell check: Word processors can provide spell check and grammar check functions. Some word processors can suggest alternatives or improvements also.
Mail merge: The mail merge facility enables us to print a large number of letters/documents with more or less similar text.
